About
A deeper exploration of form, proportion and intuitive building. The Fibonacci Vessel builds on the foundations introduced in Level 1 and takes the coiling technique further. In this online workshop, we explore how a vessel can grow through rhythm, proportion and repetition, using the Fibonacci sequence as a point of reference for the development of the form. You will learn how to build a taller and more complex vessel while paying closer attention to proportion, volume, balance and the relationship between each part of the form. Rather than working from a fixed mould or template, you will learn to make decisions as the vessel develops. The clay becomes a guide, and your hands learn to respond to its movement. You will learn: • How to develop a vessel from a simple starting point • How to use proportion and rhythm when building • How to use the Fibonacci sequence as a structural guide • How to control the growth and direction of the form • How to maintain stability while building vertically • How to refine curves, transitions and openings • How to develop a more intentional relationship between structure and expression What you will need: • 5 kg of stoneware clay with grog, ideally 0–0.5 mm • Metal scraper • Cutting wire • Sponge • Wooden, rubber and metal rib • Water • Needle and trimming tool • A suitable wooden work surface • A quiet space where you can work comfortably • Banding wheel (Not required but recommended) This is a pre-recorded, on-demand workshop. You can follow the process at your own pace, pause whenever you need, and return to individual sections as you continue working on your vessel. Level 2 is intended for makers who already have some understanding of hand-building and want to develop greater control, confidence and freedom in their forms.
